Morale is always a key concern for management, but these changes have in some cases had a huge impact on how employees feel about their roles and their ability to function in them. This roundtable is an opportunity to discuss concerns and learn how other IRI members are tackling this key issue.It will be the first step in a new IRI research project that will identify best practices in improving R&D workplace morale and motivation.

How to Choose and Implement Slack Time Models
This article explores slack time practices and distinguishes between three popular slack time models: continuous (concentrated), structured discontinuous, and unstructured discontinuous. The author argues that each slack time model organizes time differently, stimulating a different type of creative work. They identify which slack time model can best produce the creative work an organization seeks in terms of innovativeness and complexity. This article also shares results from a pilot study, which offer insights regarding R&D companies’ preferred slack time model, the creative work employees perform during slack time, and the perceived success of slack time programs.
